FACT CHECK: Did Kevin McCarthy Remove Nancy Pelosi As Speaker Of The House?
A video shared on social media purports California Democrat Rep. Nancy Pelosi cried when she was removed from her role as Speaker by California Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy.
The claim is baseless. This video does not show Pelosi crying.
President Joe Biden and McCarthy continue to negotiate in regard to the debt ceiling, CNBC News reported. McCarthy recently reassured the public that there will be a resolution saying, “I think at the end of the day we do not have a debt default,”
The Facebook post claims that Pelosi had been removed from her leadership role by McCarthy. The video opens with McCarthy walking to a podium with a backdrop of five American flags.
“TRUMP BREAKING NEWS,” the title reads. “Pelosi CRIES LIKE KID after McCarthy kicked her out as speaker.”
The caption is inaccurate. There is no credible news report that suggests that any such incident occurred. The video does not show Pelosi crying and she does not appear in the video. The video shows McCarthy and several other members of Congress discussing the recently gained majority in the House of Representatives.
McCarthy did not remove Pelosi from Speakership. McCarthy was elected to the position after the House gained a majority in the recent election, according to CNN. Pelosi stepped down from her Democrat leadership role after nearly 20 years, AP News reported. She remains a member of Congress representing California’s 11th District.
