A video shared on social media purportedly shows several people jumping out of a box truck in batman costumes during a recent riot in France.

Verdict: False

The claim is inaccurate. The video was taken in Florida.

Fact Check:

France has seen extensive protests and riots across the country in the last few days after a 17-year old was shot and killed by police during a traffic stop, CNN reported. The riots have cost businesses over $1 billion and rioters have attacked 400 banks and 500 corner shops.

The Twitter post claims the video shows a group in costume exiting a truck dressed like batman to protest in France. In the video, a man stands next to the door as the alleged protesters exit the truck wearing full costume, Batman t-shirts or masks.

“An entire truck filled with BATMANS just arrived at the riot in France,” the caption reads.

The caption is inaccurate. There is no credible news report that suggests this video was taken in France. The video appears to stem from an April 2023 video in Florida. The TikTok post says, “FSU barcrawl fits on the last day of class.” The title features hashtags of Florida State University and Tallahassee.

Another video was posted April 29 features the clip and purports to be from FSU and is titled, “some of the little things I know I will miss the most.” The video also features hashtags related to FSU. (RELATED: Images Depict Two different Country’s Riots, Not Two French Riots)

This is not the first time a misinformation has been shared online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim that a photo showed Jeffrey Epstein with Spike Lee and Elon Musk.
