Verdict: False
Police said Campbell’s death was not being treated as suspicious, according to the Vineyard Gazette. No external trauma or injuries were found on Campbell’s body during a post-mortem examination, the outlet indicated.
Fact Check:
A female former Obama staffer was reportedly with Campbell and attempted to save him from drowning while paddle boarding, according to the New York Post. Campbell, 45, is survived by his wife and children, The Independent reported.
“This is the very first picture taken of Barack Hussein Obama just days after his personal chef, Tafari Campbell, mysteriously died in 3 feet of water at Obama’s home in Martha’s Vineyard. Golfing, no care in the world. Black Eye. Cuts on his hands. As if he got into a fight. VERY odd,” the viral Instagram post, which has been liked over 13,000 times, purports. Tape is visible on two of Obama’s fingers in a picture included in the post.
The claim is false, however. Massachusetts State Police stated July 24 that former President Barack Obama and his wife, former First Lady Michelle Obama, were not at their residence when Campbell’s body was found on Martha’s Vineyard. Campbell had been reported missing the previous day while paddle boarding. He appeared to struggle to stay on the water’s surface and then submerged but did not resurface, the initial press release from the Massachusetts State Police reveals.
Furthermore, Obama has been seen wearing bandages on his fingers while golfing in the past. A 2015 article from the Daily Mail indicates he was wearing three bandages while golfing on Martha’s Vineyard during a summer trip at the time.

In addition, neither the former President nor the former First Lady have publicly commented on the claim. They also have not released a statement responding to the claim via their Obama Foundation website.
