A post shared on X claims New York Democratic Attorney General Letitia James is to be disbarred.

Verdict: False

This claim is baseless. A New York Attorney General spokesperson confirmed that the claim is not true in an email to Check Your Fact.

Fact Check:

A former federal prosecutor has suggested that James’ win in former President Donald Trump’s civil fraud case may not last, according to Newsweek. The New York appeals court has been urged to lower the $500 million penalty by Trump’s lawyers, the outlet reported.

An X post claims James is to be disbarred. The post shares an image of James wearing pearls and a black top.

“BREAKING NEWS,” the post reads. “TRUMP PROSECUTOR LETITIA JAMES TO BE DISBARRED.”

This claim is baseless, however. There are no credible news reports to corroborate the claim that James is to be disbarred. Likewise, there are no press releases on the New York Attorney General website to suggest that this is true.

“That is not true,” a New York Attorney General spokesperson told Check Your Fact via email. (RELATED: No, Letitia James Did Not Call Joe Biden An ‘Illegitimate President’)

The account that posted the claim credits a video from a YouTuber named Trish Regan, which does not provide any evidence to support James’ alleged disbarment.

This is not the first time misinformation involving James has spread online. Check Your Fact previously debunked a claim that the U.S. Navy arrested her for treason.
