Verdict: Misleading

At least two photos were taken in an Israeli city 20 miles away.

Fact Check:

The Israeli military is planning on hitting Iran in retaliation for the Iranian Oct. 1 ballistic missile attack that struck several military installations in Israel and killed a Palestinian and wounded two Israelis, according to the Times of Israel.

Social media users are claiming to show Tel Aviv buildings with smoke behind them. One user wrote, “Smoke columns rise over Tel Aviv.” (RELATED: FACT CHECK: Is FEMA Confiscating Supplies and Halting Relief Efforts for Hurricane Helene Victims?)

This claim is misleading. Full Fact found a building in the image and found that it was taken in the city of Kiryat Malakhi, which is 20 miles away from Tel Aviv.

The outlet also found another building, confirming it was taken in the city and that Tel Aviv was not in the background. Full Fact reported: “Using Google Street View we can also tell the pictures were taken facing the south-east, while Tel Aviv is north of Kiryat Malakhi, so Tel Aviv is not in the background.”

Therefore, the images are likely not from Tel Aviv and were geoconfirmed to a different city. We rate this claim as misleading.
