A video shared on X allegedly shows footage of a tornado that formed while drivers were on a road in Florida during Hurricane Milton.

Verdict: False

The video is miscaptioned. This video took place in Florida in April 2023, according to an upload from Telegraph.

Fact Check:

Before Hurricane Milton made landfall, several tornadoes spawned across Florida with one meteorologist saying their strength was “out of the ordinary,” according to AP News. The tornados caused National Weather Services to issue over 100 tornado warnings and an undisclosed amount of deaths, the outlet reported.

An Oct. 9 X video allegedly shows footage of one of these tornadoes occurring in a road. Taken from a car, the video shows various debris being swept up, and at one point a car is lifted into the air. Voices can be heard saying “Holy cow” and “Oh my God, it’s like right in front of him.”

The caption reads, “Tornado forms in front of Florida drivers during Hurricane.” (RELATED: No, These Various Clips Do Not Show Hurricane Milton Landfall)

This video is miscaptioned, however. The video was posted to YouTube by Telegraph in April 2023. “A startling video has shown a tornado throwing a car into the air in Florida,” the description reads, in part. “Footage posted on social media shows bystanders watching in disbelief as a car drives on the road in front of them, before it is hurled into the air and flips over twice.”

The incident was not related to a hurricane. Palm Beach, Florida was hit by several tornado warnings and at least one confirmed tornado in April 2023, according to Fox Weather, which also shared the same video.
