A video shared on X claims to show Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers refusing to go into Lebanon.

Verdict: False

The video is from July 2024 and shows people protesting the arrests of soldiers accused of sexually abusing a Palestinian prisoner.

Fact Check:

The IDF announced that five soldiers had been killed fighting in southern Lebanon, according to the Times of Israel. The IDF launched an invasion of southern Lebanon earlier this month, the outlet reported.

Social media users are claiming to show Israeli troops refusing to serve on the Lebanese border. One user wrote, “IOF Refuse to Serve on the Lebanese border.”

This claim is false. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found that the video is from July 2024 and shows people protesting the arrests of soldiers accused of sexually abusing a Palestinian prisoner. The video was published by the Israeli outlet Walla.

Wall reported that there was a “protest against the arrest of the soldiers suspected of abusing a terrorist moved to the base of the Israel Defense Forces, and the army demonstrators at the gate of the legal compound and pounded it calling for the release of the detainees.”

Tal Hagin, an open-source intelligence analyst, also debunked the claim in an Oct. 17 post.

“This video is from July 29th, 2024. It depicts protests outside the military courts – protesting the court’s decision to arrest soldiers accused of being involved in the violent sexual assault of a Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman detention center,” Hagin said.
