FACT CHECK: No, There Were Not 10 Million Fewer Voters In 2024 Than 2020
A post shared on X claims that there were 10 million fewer voters in 2024 than in 2020.
UPDATE: The final results of the 2020 election vs. the 2024 election show nearly 10,000,000 voters did not vote this election. All of who went for Biden in 2020
Trumps numbers stayed relatively the same in both elections
How is this possible?

Verdict: False
Votes are still being counted. The vote total will likely be more than 150 million votes.
Fact Check:
Social media users are claiming that nearly 10 million voters did not vote in the 2024 election and that they all voted for President Joe Biden in 2020. They also state to show “final election results” for the 2024 election.
“UPDATE: The final results of the 2020 election vs. the 2024 election show nearly 10,000,000 voters did not vote this election. All of who went for Biden in 2020…Trumps numbers stayed relatively the same in both elections. How is this possible?” one user wrote.
This claim is false. First, votes are still being counted. Since this post was initially shared on X, hundreds of thousands of votes have been counted and added to both President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President Harris’ vote totals. For example, Trump has crossed over from 74 million to 75 million votes during this time.
Votes are still being counted in California, which still has nearly 5 million ballots to count as of Nov. 11, according to The New York Times. The slowness in the counting of ballots has caused conspiracy theories about the 2024 election to go viral on both the left and the right, the outlet reported Nov. 9.
The U.S. Elections Project projects that there would be 155 million votes cast, which is three million shy of the 2020 total. Nate Silver, the founder of FiveThirtyEight, projected that there would be around 156 million votes. (RELATED: Did Hillsborough County Close An Election Day Voting Site?)
