A post shared on Facebook claims Syrian leader Abu Mohammed al-Golani said he would sign a law allowing Syrians to work in Israel.

Verdict: False

There is no evidence for this claim.

Fact Check:

A U.S. delegation met with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) leaders recently, making it the first meeting between the United States and the Syrian rebels that recently toppled longtime despot Bashar al-Assad’s regime, according to Reuters.

Social media users are claiming that Al-Jolani said he would sign a law that would allow Syrians to work in Israel and that he would sign a peace treaty with the state. (RELATED: Video Of Biden Speaking About Drones Is AI-Generated)

“Al-Jolani from the headquarters of the presidency of the republic: I will work on a law that allows the Syrian brothers to move and work within the State of ‘Israel,’ with which we will sign a peace and cooperation agreement in the coming weeks, and there will be trade and industrial exchange and cooperation at the highest levels,” reads one user’s post.

There is no evidence for this claim. If Al-Jolani had made such a statement, media outlets would have covered it, yet none have. A further internet search also did not yield any results for this claim.

Al-Jolani has condemned Israeli airstrikes in Syria but signaled that he would not pursue a conflict with the country, according to the Financial Times. He said, “Our priorities now are meeting the basic needs of the people and working to realize a more stable and just future,” per the outlet.

Misbar also debunked this claim.
