A post shared on Facebook claims billionaire Elon Musk said the Japanese should stay in Japan and Italians should stay in Italy.

Verdict: False

There is no evidence for this claim.

Fact Check

Social media users are claiming that Musk said that Italians should stay in Italy and Japanese should stay in Japan. One user wrote, “Elon Musk says Italians should stay in Italy and the Japanese in Japan. Then why the hell is this South African in our country?”

This claim is false as there is no evidence for this claim. If Musk had said such a thing, media outlets would have covered it, yet none have. A wider internet search also did not yield any results for this claim.

The origin of this claim comes from a video where Musk said that people should have more babies. During a 2023 event, he said that Italians should “make more Italians to save Italy’s culture,” according to CNN.

“My advice to all government leaders and people is make sure you have children to create a new generation, or the culture of Italy, Japan and France will disappear,” he also said, per Business Insider.

PolitiFact also debunked the claim.  (RELATED: Did Trump Sign An Executive Order Stopping All New Funds To The UNRWA?)
