FACT CHECK: No, USAID Did Not Pay Kevin Rudd $1 Million
A post shared on Facebook claims the United States Agency for International Development paid Kevin Rudd $1 million.
Verdict: False
There is no evidence that Rudd gets USAID money. Rudd’s office denied the claim.
Fact Check:
Social media users are claiming that Rudd, a former Australian Prime Minister, received USAID money in 2022. One user wrote, “Again, no surprises Kevin Rudd gets busted mooching off the American taxpayers through USAID given he’s still doing the same to our own.”
This claim is false. There is no evidence that Rudd receives USAID money, according to AAP Fact Check. The number referenced in the image is his salary, which was funded by the Asia Society. An Asian Society spokesperson told AAP Fact Check the organization does not receive USAID money.
“Asia Society does not receive funding from USAID thus no USAID funds have been put toward compensation or anything else,” the spokesperson said.
Rudd’s office denied the claim in a Feb. 8 tweet. (RELATED: Did Pope Francis Say That Jesus Was Born During A Census Taken By King David?)
We’ve seen posts claiming Kevin Rudd received money from the US Agency for Int’l Development in 2022. It’s a fake. USAID doesn’t fund Kevin Rudd or Asia Society. Nor did Asia Society receive any USAID funding during Dr Rudd’s period as president. It’s a lie. Pure and simple.
