A post shared on Facebook claims that the net worth of the former administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Samantha Power, increased by $23 million.

Verdict: Misleading

Power’s net worth has always been around this range, according to PolitiFact and her financial disclosures.

Fact Check:

Social media users are claiming that the net worth of Power, the former USAID administrator, has gone up by $23 million. One user wrote, “EX-USAID CHIEF SAMANTHA POWER’S NET WORTH SKYROCKETS—FROM $6.7M TO $30M ON A $180K SALARY IN 3 YEARS…WONDER HOW THAT HAPPENS.”

This claim is misleading. BBC News and PolitiFact reported that Power’s disclosures showed that her net worth was between $11 million and $30 million from 2021-2024.

PolitiFact reported, “Her total combined assets did not fluctuate wildly during her term. In 2022, her average net worth was $20.9 million; in 2023, $18.2 million; and in 2024, $20.8 million.” (RELATED: Claim That Trump Plans To Invalidate Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness Program Is Satire)

Check Your Fact also reviewed her January 2021May 2022May 2023 and May 2024 disclosures. Check Your Fact found that her combined assets did not go from $6.7 million to $30 million in three years. It remained primarily stable.

Check Your Fact rates this claim misleading.
