Verdict: False
There is no evidence this occurred. The Houthis did not claim they hit the Truman.
Fact Check:
The United States hit the Iranian-backed Houthis with airstrikes, with the designated terrorist group claiming the attacks had killed 53 people, including children, according to BBC News. The U.S. claimed to have killed Houthi leaders, the outlet reported.
Social media users are claiming that the USS Harry S. Truman, an aircraft carrier, was hit by the Houthis. One user wrote, “USS Truman just got hit lmfao.”
There is no evidence that this occurred. If the Truman had been hit, media outlets would have covered it, yet none have. A wider internet search also did not yield any results for this claim. (RELATED: Claim That Pam Bondi Has Petitioned The Courts To Vacate Anthony Fauci’s Pardon Is Satire)
The Houthis have claimed to have targeted the Truman but did not state they hit the aircraft carrier. The Houthis posted a March 16 video statement claiming they targeted the ship with ballistic and cruise missiles but did not claim they hit the carrier.

A U.S. official told Task & Purpose that the Houthis launched 11 drones and a ballistic missile at the Truman and her escorts, with U.S. Air Force jets shooting down the drones and the missile falling into the ocean. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) published footage of the Truman launching aircraft in a March 17 post.

There are also videos available on DVIDsHub showing the Truman operating. A defense official told Check Your Fact that the “Houthis continue to communicate lies and disinformation.”
“They are well known for false claims minimizing the results of our attacks while exaggerating the successes of theirs. In fact, they have claimed to have hit our ships multiple times in the past and have even claimed to have sunk our aircraft carriers. Their messaging depends on lies,” the official said.
