A post shared on social media purports actors Mark Wahlberg and Mel Gibson have announced they are creating a “non-woke” movie studio.

Verdict: False

The claim is inaccurate.

Fact Check:

Gibson and rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson are creating a movie called “Boneyard” which stars the two, Entertainment reported. The film is based on the true event of an FBI agent investigating a serial killer, and both Jackson and Gibson will be portraying law enforcement.

A post shared on Facebook purports that actors Mel Gibson and Mark Wahlberg are creating a studio together. The post shares a photo of each of them with text underneath.

The text reads, “Mel Gibson and Mark Wahlberg Join Hands to Create a Non-Woke Film Production Studio, ‘Hollywood is Saved.’”

The claim is inaccurate. The claim stems from a satirical news outlet called Esspots. The website self-identifies as satire, their disclaimer reads, “Our team of writers and editors is dedicated to bringing you the latest and greatest in fake news and absurdity, all with a healthy dose of humor and satire.”

Esspots is a subsidiary of SpaceXMania.com, which is also a satirical website. The post shared the headline without any satirical label. (RELATED: Does Video Show Explosion At Francis Scott Key Bridge?)

Mel Gibson has worked on independent movies. For the 2023 Angel Studios film “Sound of Freedom,” Gibson is credited as an executive producer. Gibson has also announced that he will be working on a sequel to his film “The Passion of the Christ.”

This is not the first time misinformation has been shared online. Check Your Fact debunked a claim a video showed a Ukrainian jet being shot down.
