A post shared on social media purportedly shows a diver during the Paris Olympics failing during his routine.

Verdict: False

The claim is inaccurate. The video is from 2015.

Fact Check:

Organizers of the Paris Olympics issued an apology to anyone offended by the opening ceremony, The Associated Press reported. The organizers stated that they meant no disrespect with the performance that showed a recreation of Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” that featured drag performers.

A post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, allegedly shows a diver failing his routine at the Olympics. The video shows the diver landing on his back in the pool.

The caption reads, “I can’t stop watching this Olympic diving fail. Teammate high five at the end kills me every time.”

The claim is inaccurate. The video dates back to 2015 during Southeast Asian Games in Singapore.

Reports at the time covered the diving error. Business Insider reported that a 17-year-old Filipino diver received 0.0 in a failed dive. (RELATED: Does This Video Show Olympic Equestrian Charlotte Dujardin Hitting A Horse?)

The diver, John Elmerson Fabriga, reacted to his score saying in part, “This was the first time I felt this great intense pressure. Hooo, one event is over. One more to go. I failed one dive and the rest of my dives were [expletive] than what I did during the training. But at least it was a nice experience,” For The Win reported.

This is not the first time misinformation has been shared online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim from the media that Elon Musk is giving Trump $45 Million per month.
