A photo shared on X allegedly shows musician Rihanna attending the 2024 Met Gala wearing an extravagant outfit.

Verdict: False

The photo was digitally fabricated. Rihanna did not attend the event due to illness.

Fact Check:

Musician Cardi B faced backlash after forgetting the name and only noting the race of her Met Gala outfit’s designer, Sensen Lii, according to Billboard. She later defended herself by saying that she was not trying to “be offensive” when answering the question asked by Vogue.

An X post claims to show a picture of Rihanna at the Met Gala. An image appears to show Rihanna in a floor-length gown with a large circular structure stemming from the sleeves, showing a design of birds perched on an intricate web of greenery.

“I think we all agree that Rihanna is the best dressed at #MetGala,” the post’s caption reads.

The image does not show Rihanna at the 2024 Met Gala. The musician and business owner did not attend the event this year due to contracting the flu, according to USA Today. A full guest list from Today does not show her name.

Additionally, the background in the Rihanna picture does not match that of this year’s Met Gala. The picture shows pink flowers and a cream and blue carpet, while the carpet was actually cream and green and there were white flowers. This can be seen in an image from Pop Base.

Check Your Fact reached out to a Rihanna representative for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received. (RELATED: Do These Photos Show Rihanna Holding Her Child?)

Rihanna was not the only one who became a subject of fake Met Gala photos. Check Your Fact also debunked an AI-generated image claiming to show musician Katy Perry at this year’s Met Gala.
