FACT CHECK: Is The Attorney General Investigating Biden Protestors?

An image shared on social media purportedly shows a headline reporting that Department of Justice (DOJ) Attorney General Merrick Garland announced an investigation into people that chant “f*** Biden.”

 Verdict: False

The claim stems from a satirical website. There is no evidence that Garland made this statement.

Fact Check:

Garland has recently come under scrutiny by Congress for actions taken by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the arrest of Catholic activist Mark Houck, United Press International reported. The report suggests Houck, a anti-abortion protestor, was arrested in his home by over 20 officers in tactical gear on charges of assault.

The post purports Garland has announced a Department of Justice investigation into those who protest President Joe Biden. The post shares an alleged article that features an image of Garland with Biden and former President Barack Obama.

“Merrick Garland Announces DOJ Will Investigate People Chanting F Biden,” the caption reads. (RELATED: No, This Is Not A Real Headline About Male Pregnancy)

The claim is baseless. The image stems from an article posted on a satirical website called, Dogfaceponia. The slogan for the site is, “It’s Fairy Tale News.” This website also self identifies as satire. The “about” section of the outlet says, “DogFacePonia.com is a SATIRE site.”

There is no credible news report that suggests this claim is accurate. Likewise, there have been no press releases from the Department of Justice that mention any such investigation.

Check Your Fact contacted the DOJ for comment on this claim and will update this piece if a response is provided.

This is not the first time a satirical post has been shared online as real. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim that Edward Snowden revealed an HAARP global assassination agenda.
