An image shared on Facebook claims 16th-century French astrologer Michel de Nostredame, commonly known as Nostradamus, predicted that “a feeble man shall rule the Western World with a jezebel.”

Verdict: False

There is no evidence Nostradamus wrote the quote. It cannot be found in his collected written works.

Fact Check:

The internet is replete with claims that Nostradamus predicted various world events that occurred after his 1566 death, including that he foretold the death of King Henry II, the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte and the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, according to Encyclopedia Britannica.

This particular Facebook post alleges Nostradamus wrote, “A plague shall fall upon the world. After, a feeble man shall rule the Western World with a jezebel. The people will be damaged and subjugated by a fool ruler. The great eagle shall suffer and fall.”

The supposed Nostradamus quatrain includes a photo of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, seemingly suggesting the quote is referencing them. It also mentions a “plague,” which some social media users appear to have connected to the COVID-19 pandemic. Check Your Fact previously debunked the claim that the French astrologer had predicted the coronavirus pandemic.

There is no evidence Nostradamus ever made such a prediction about Biden and Harris taking office. The quote does not appear in his 1555 book “Les Prophéties,” nor can it be found in his collected works.

David Bell, a history professor at Princeton University, confirmed in an email to Check Your Fact that the quote was “almost certainly false.” (RELATED: Did Nostradamus Predict the Coronavirus Outbreak?)

“It does not appear in the collected works of Nostradamus,” Bell said. “Moreover, the phrase ‘Western World’ was not in use in the 16th century, when Nostradamus lived and worked.”

The fake Nostradamus quote, debunked by Snopes last month, has been circulating online since at least November 2020.
